2010 Remodeling Project #1

Our house was built in 1855 and was originally an Apostolic church. It’s a work in progress.  We’ve taken a four year break from doing any major projects, but we’re ready to get back in the remodeling mode.  We just finished getting replacement windows. It was time.  Our old windows were very inefficient and opened and closed via ropes and weights.  The tax credit is a bonus and we’re hoping to see financial savings in our heating bill too.

Our first project for 2010 is to bring the circa 1960s room that houses our studio into the 21st century. We are starting by covering the wood paneling with a fresh coat of paint.  We’ve spent the first two days of the new year painting and we like the results so far.

We still need to figure out what to do with all the special features labeled in the “before” pictures below.  We are currently searching for a flooring solution that meets my design/style hopes and Kent’s photography needs.  It’s been a challenge, but I’m hopeful we will find something.  There is painted hard wood floor under the carpet that I’d like to leave exposed around the edges, but we are having trouble finding an area rug big enough that is within our budget.  I’m finding a lot of inspiration from younghouselove.com and decor8blog.com.  I hope to be posting the “after” pictures in a couple few weeks.
